I think I must be missing something here...
I, as the developer, create Report1 and Report2: they use DataSouceA.
DataSourceA is set to use windows integrated security.
My on-demade reports run fine. The username (selected from the db, not from the Globals collection) is used to filter out options on the parameter screen, so users can only see data in their respective division.
Now: I want my USERS to be able to schedule reports.
I am able to schedule reports by taking Report1 and Report2 and either customizing the data source or pointing it to a new data source: BUT I AM DOING THAT FOR ALL USERS who are on the system!!! Now, anyone who goes to run Report1 or Report2 does not need to have any security to access the database, they are all using my id!
If I create a LINKED report, you do not seem to have the option of changing the data source...it is not even on the left menu anymore. '
So: I am confused. If I have to set up all reports to used a saved data source (lets just say it is my username and password), what is the sense of having any security? I must be missing something here.
What I want is the NT integrated security for on-demand. Then if a user has the ability to schedule reports, they would need to make a linked copy of the report, change the data source (and remember there is no way to copy a data source, so my users will have to ALL be trained on creating them - which seems a bit odd) to point to a datasource with stored credentials (preferrably their own login and password), and create a schedule.Unfortunately there is not a good solution for this in V1. Integrated
reports can not be scheduled. We are hoping to change this in a future
version.

Data Provider List Missing...very odd SQL 2000
Hey All!
I have an interseting situation with one of my dev machines. (W2k3EE, SQL2k SP4)
All my linked servers stopped working posting this error:
Server: Msg 7302, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Could not create an instance of OLE DB provider [enter provider name here, e.g. 'SQLOLEDB'.
So...when attempting to drop and recreate the linked server, the Provider pull down in the GUI is completely empty.
YIKES!
I'm thinking of reinstalling MDAC, but I've never seen this in 10 years of DBA'ing.
Have any of you? Any thoughts out there? Registry issues?
Cheers,
OddNever seen anything like it either. I'm running the same combination in my environment, so if you have any solutions, please post.
Some thoughts and/or suggestions:
1. Was the server recently patched?
2. Was any new software (eg. driver package) recently installed?
3. Any entries in the Application or System error log(s)?
4. Do you back up the registry on this machine? Can it be restored?
Regards,
hmscott|||Thanks for the reply...will definitely post what I find...
1 - yeah, SP4
2 - prolly so...the network guys love to drop agents on my dev servers without mentioning it...Alteris monitor, i think this time
3 - nada
4 - heck no, that would be too easy

Data in linked server is not updated
I linked server S2 to server S1. When I linked it, the database in S2 had
data up to 11/17/06. Users entered new data to that database since then. How
come when I ran a query using the linked database, (using select * from
[S2].dbo.dbname.tablename), the new data was not in the query result? But
when I ran the query in S2 itself I got the correct data. I refreshed the
link by right clicking the server name and hit refresh, but it didn't work. I
even deleted the link and relink it again. Still didn't work. Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

If "[S2].dbo.dbname.tablename" is truly the format that you used, you're
not looking at the proper table. The proper format would be
"[S2].dbname.dbo.tablename"

thanks for your reply. It was my fault. We have the new server and a new
testing server. Since they're in different domain than S1, I used their IP
address and made aliases. I used the testing server's IP address for the S2
alias. That's why it wasn't updated. Stupid me..
