Data recovery service!

I've been asked to find a data recovery service who can help restore a sql
server database that has become corrupt or is on a hard drive that has
become non-functional. Does anyone have suggestions of a company who
specializes in this sort of work?
Since most drives (disk arrays) are multiple spindles in a RAID configuration
could you be a bit more specific? Do you mean, for example, an internal set
of drives?

|||Hello,
If you hard drive is totally unusable, only option is restore from a good
backup and restore transaction log backups.
Take a look into various hugh availability options using:-
1. Replication
2. Logshipping
3. Database mirroring
or
Clustering
Thanks

In the meantime, see what a company like Ontrack.com can do.
And there's one or two software packages that claim to be able to help
recover data from a corrupt db.
Take a look at those.

Data recovery problems

I restored a backup and latest trasnsactions files for one
of my db (hrMasterData), now I have a messages that says
HrMasterData (loading).
It is a long time I am waiting for, what is happening, and
what can I do?If you restored all your transaction log files already, maybe you just
forgot to use the WITH RECOVERY in your last tlog. Use the following command
to solve this problem:
RESTORE DATABASE dbname WITH RECOVERY

data recovery problem: need help with sp_attach_db

Hello, The short story is that we were trying to update to windows
2000 sp4 and the server was corrupted. It would not boot. So, we
reinstalled the OS and SQL Server 7. Now, I have one MDF
file/database which I need to reattach. How do I do this? I've been
reading about sp_attach_db and sp_attach_single_file_db so I know that
it's possible but I need a quick step-by-step as to how to access the
command line and what to do, caveats, etc. I'd like to have things
back up and running by Monday AM so if there is a gentle reader who
sees this cry for help and can send me an email concerning the fix I
would greatly appreciate it. THANKS!
Eben Yong
eben_yong@.hpsm.org <--work (I prefer responses, here)
yonglove@.yahoo.com <--personalIf you only have the data file, you might get lucky with
sp_attach_single_file_db. For example:
EXEC sp_attach_single_file_db
'MyDatabase',
'C:\MyDataFiles\MyDatabase.mdf'
Depending on the state database at the time of the crash, the attach may
fail because the data file is inconsistent and the log file is required.
In this case, I suggest you restore from backup if possible. If you
have no backup, contact Microsoft PSS.
If the database attaches successfully, you'll need to recreate logins
and remap database. You can use sp_change_users_login to facilitate
this. See the Books Online for details on using these stored procs.

data recovery

Hello All,
Is there a way to restore/recover data from an earlier date if you donot have a backup. The data was accidentally deleted from a table.
Thanks in advance
Hugo
Unfortunately, if you do not have a backup (and more importantly are using transaction log backups (to be able to restore to a specific point-in-time)), then unfortunately there is not a way to recover the database back to it's state before the deletion.

data missing in the full backup

i have a 2005 db with full recovery mode. daily full backups, diff backups and log backups are done through sqlagent. i wanted to make a copy of it on another instance using the restore method with the latest full backup. after i created the new db, i noticed that a few tables were missing and columns were missing from existing tables also. futhermore, the recrods in these tables were not up-to-date either. i did fresh a full backup and tried again and the problem persisted. i aslo tried to restore on the same sql server instance under a different db name and that reproduced the problem.

the database schema was changed a few weeks ago and it seems that i am only seeing a snapshot of the database before the schema change. dbcc checkdb returns no error. the size of the backup file looks reasonable and i seen an increase in size since the schema change which is expected. there is no active transactions in the db and if i generate a create script, it contains proper t-sql that matches the current schema.

what am i missing there? what could i be doing wrong? i am lost here and any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

i found the problem. the backup script didn't specify INIT and SKIP so an older set was used by the restore operation.
