Data Sliles or Filter or seperate Fact Tables for ourCube Partitio

Hi,
we have cubes partitioned on the time dimension. The majority of data that
comes in if for the last 4 days or so. The new data is loaded into a seperate
fact table, and loaded into a partition. This partition is then merged into
the current month partition.
However, we can have data that comes in which is a month or longer old. So
would be merged into the incorrect partition. And would remain there until a
full reprocess of the Fact tables are cube partitiions.
I understand that when data slices are defined for a partition, that AS2000
will only visit the partitions that contain the relevent data. What happens
if we use data slices in our situation?
If the data is in the incorrect partition, as a result of merging, is it
possible that the data is missed out, depending on the query? Or would the
merging not be allowed to take place?
Would we want to define data slices for all partitions, except for the
current month ?
Or would we want to define a filter, and rather than a build and merge, do
an incremental build against the cube ?
We are really looking for the quickest load time possible, while having
correct data of course.
Thanks in advance for any advice and help.
Is this for AS 2000 or 2005? In 2000, slices that you defined are used for
querying. In 2005, slices for MOLAP partitions are detected automatically.
For ROLAP partitions the slice you specify will be used to eliminate
partitions from queries.
But besides that, only your latest partition would have "incorrect" data,
right? So just don't set a slice for that last partition -- it would mean
that this partition would be unnecessarily scanned for some queries, but it
should be a fairly small partition anyway...
Thanks,
Akshai

Data load: want to redirect extant rows in table to a file

We are working on a DataWarehouse app. The DW has been loaded wiith transactional data from the start of September. and we want refresh the DW with a full load from the original source. This full load wil consist largely of the same records that we loaded initially in the DW but some records will be new and others will have changed.

During the load I want to direct input records NOT already in the DW to a "mods" table and ignore those input records that alreayd exist in the DW. Can SSIS help out with this task?

TIA,

Barkingdog

Use a lookup task to compare the input with the existing table. Redirect errors to the "mods" table and ignore all records where the lookup succeeds.

Data intergrety between 2 enviroments

we have a table that after being loaded we bulk copy it to a as400 table and then truncate the sql server table.. lets say the 400 shuts down my transaction pile ups so iam thinking lets put the transaction in a temp table and then roll another job every 10 minute to check on the as400 if it exist if it dosent then insert the record is there a way to pass a query to the as400 from sql or to conect on a as400 and query the databseHIllcat

Does your As400 server switch off alot , do you know which times this server is availiable..if yes then i would suggest you create and shedule a job to transfer the sql data to the as400 table(s) during the uptime period by using DTS.

Data from the database does not seems to load on screen...pls help

everything is ok.. the connection is on..the page can be loaded... no error...

BUT the data from the database cannot be retrieved... as in.. it just didnt load on screen...

i dont know whats wrong... i have follow all the steps show on a book.. can anyone pls help me?? thks

Two common possibilities. First, do a CTRL-Refresh on the page and make sure you're not just seeing the data your browser cached. Second, your code isn't working. Can't help with the second, since I don't know what book you used or what your code is.

ok this is my code:

private

void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e){

sqlConnection1.Open();

dsCustomers1.Clear();

sqlDataAdapter1.Fill(dsCustomers1, "Customers");

if (sqlConnection1.State == ConnectionState.Open)

Label4.Text = "SQL Connection is open";

else

Label4.Text = "SQL Connection is closed";

}

i used the dataAdapter wizard to configure everything, do the dataset and binding too...

|||Where is the code to show content from dsCustomers1? If you're binding it to something like GridView, make sure to?call?Page.DataBind()?or?GridView.DataBind()?before?you?want?to?see?the?data.
