Data source name not found and no default driver specified
This is the error I get when attempting to install my copy of SQL Server
2000 developer edition.
I had SQL Server installed on my workstation, functioning correctly. My
computer crashed and it appears that there is some sort of registry
corruption because I could not open up my local instance in Enterprise
Manager.
Checking ODBCAD32, it did not appear that I had any drivers installed for
any source (MS Access, standard ODBC, SQL Server, etc.)
I attempted to execute the MDAC on the Microsoft web site with no results.
The component Checker determined that I had MDAC 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2.
I uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server and on the final step, the above
message appeared.
How do I get the default SQL Server driver reinstalled to my workstation. My
network techs indicate that I have to reinstall my OS to get the drivers
back. This seems a little extreme.
Thank you in advance.
Any joy there ? I was demoing a client install of SQL 2000 when I
canceled it and "poof" all my ODBC drivers disappeared.
I had previously installed and removed SQL 2005 Beta, so the only option
I had was to re-install connectivity to SQL 2005 and use "SQL Native
Client"
It looks like a re-build.
I've seen a few posts like this but never any response.
yay.

Data not appearing in report at runtime
I am attempting to create and view a simple Crystal Report in VB.net and am running into some difficulty.
- First of all I add my Microsoft Access database as a datasource.
- Then I create a Crystal Report within VB.Net using the fields from my datasource e.g. MyReport.rpt
- Finally I create a form with a Crystal ReportViewer control on it and set the ReportSource to my new report, MyReport.rpt
However when I run my project the report appears but the data does not display.
I have tried looking at a couple of tutorials but haven't been able to figure it out, I'm guessing that I need to run a piece of code at runtime or something for the data to display?
Can anyone please help?
Many thanks in advance.
LeeDid you refresh the report source using your program?|||Hi there,
How do I carry that out?
Many thanks

Just call the method of CrystalReportViewer;
i.e.
CrystalReportViewer CR
CR.RefreshReport()

Data Migration
models. Our database is large, with over 100 tables, and 50 Gigs of data.
Our differences between various clients is subtle, but again the volume of
tables makes it challenging.
What I am looking for is a tool that will migrate data from an older version
of a database to a top level version of the same database.
This is SQL Server 2000 SP 3a to SQL Server 2000 SP 3a.
Does anyone know of such a tool?

Couldn't you script these changes using T-SQL and modify as needed per
client? Another option is to use DTS.

|||My first thought was to use a linked server (where the data I want to migrate
is) and then so something like:
Insert into newdb..TableA
Select * from olddb..TableA
BUT, there are contraints on the new database that cause these to fail. I
was hoping there was something out there that would script the dropping on
the indexes and keys on the new db, then the data move, then the creation of
the keys and constraints on the new db.
I already have a script that will make the old server structure like the
new...

The tool package from www.red-gate.com has a tool to compare the schema and
one to compare data. I know the schema tool will generate change scripts
but I don't know if it can generate data change scripts. That's usually
highly dependant on the schema and business rules.

Data flows and unique columns.
Perhaps one too many 2000 DTS packages have permanently damaged my ability to think clearly - however, I've find myself very frustrated attempting to create a SSIS Data Flow which replaces a very simple 2000 DTS package.
Take data from table1 in database1, put it in table2 in database2. Table2 in Database2 has an additional column as part of the primary key - so I need to add an arbitrary unique value in each row as it's inserted. Previously, I did this in the transformation script through a variable I incremented.
What's the recommend method to do this now - since row level processing of variables seem to be a no-no?
A script component in the data flow will do what you want. The following script assumes that you grabbed the maxkey in the table BEFORE running the data flow. Then this script increments the maxkey by 1 and then starts incrementing for each row through the data flow.Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper
Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent
Private NextKey As Int32 = 0
Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)
Dim MaximumKey As Int32 = Me.Variables.MaxKey ' Grab value of MaxKey which was passed in
' NextKey will always be zero when we start the package.
' This will set up the counter accordingly
If (NextKey = 0) Then
' Use MaximumKey +1 here because we already have data
' and we need to start with the next available key
NextKey = MaximumKey + 1
Else
' Use NextKey +1 here because we are now relying on
' our counter within this script task.
NextKey = NextKey + 1
End If
Row.ClientKey = NextKey ' Assign NextKey to our ClientKey field on our data row
End Sub
End Class|||
Use a script task:

thanks!
